Thanks for the heads up, I last visited the MTurk site early in 2007. Back then, one of my fellow web acquaintances was doing this for some spare change and much of what I wrote came from the exchanges we had then.

This friend has since moved on to Scriptlance and Elance, which earns her more for the time she puts in, and these are possibly the reasons why the MTurk site isnt so popular nowadays compared to the time when it first came out?

If you're one of the MTurk staff or a frequent user, I would be glad to hear more from you. Thanks for the comment.

According to their site, the Amazon Web Services branch is also using this as a way to improve the A9 search engine, in tasks such as improving the search engine’s Blockview pictures. Currently, image tagging is a very popular task there,

Not exactly. The A9 work hasn't been on the site in about 18 months, and A9 itself hasn't had the Block View function in maybe a year. There's also relatively little "image tagging" on Mechanical Turk. Most of the work is audio transcriptions.
