Well, just like what the saying goes, there is nothing certain but death and taxes. I assume that the US IRS is the most efficient and productive revenue/tax collecting agency anywhere in the world. They even collect taxes from non-US citizens who just happen to do business online with US clients.

I do not have experience with cases that do have a taxation treaty and interest payments, so I am afraid I cannot be of much help here. Hopefully someone else can chime in.

Hi darrin
I have been asked to complete this form for a US person who I gave a loan too and is paying me back with interest. Because he is paying interest he says he needs this form completed …. Just in case and for his records.
I am in a country with a double taxation treaty with US and it reduces the 30% required withholding to 0%. I guess the form is just a proof I am in that country and have business in the US.
What boxes in section 9 do I need to check?
And do I need to file out #10 and go find the section in the treaty that covers the interest payment at 0%?
Do I need to check #11? And if so do I just give a separate piece of paper with some sort of statement saying what? Or is just ticking the box enough?
