Solar powered Google, Green Yahoo and hybrid cars

By | May 14, 2007

TechCrunch has a nice post on how the two Web giant search engines, Google and Yahoo are hard at work competing to get more publicity and to publicize themselves as environmentally friendly. It is all good, I tell you 😉 The earth needs action done today.

Although Micheal Arrington of TechCrunch is right to say both are in a race to be the greenest, I won’t bejudge Google and Yahoo; I just think it is great that they act. Silicon Valley folks being green snobs? Who cares. The whole world should be green snobs, if that is what it takes to save the Earth. After all, we are staring at the possiblity of not having much of an Earth in the next few decades.

Good going with the Google corporate solar power initiative. Solar power can be an energy source in the next 10-20 years to replace traditional fossil fuel stations. According to Solar Electric Light Fund website, “Enough sunlight falls on the earth’s surface every hour to meet world energy demand for an entire year“. I never thought so much solar power was going to waste everyday…

Yahoo had good initiatives as well – Yahoo Green and Be a Better Planet. I think Be a Better Planet should be expanded to include more cities outside of USA in future. Hybrid taxis? That’s a cool way to get people aware of hybrid cars, because I havent seen one yet. (But me thinks car pooling is more effective than any kind of car, and that’s what I do everyday).

A Google search on hybrid cars shows almost 9,000,000 results, lol. That’s a lot of website competition; but hey, if hybrid cars are your passion, go for it and make a great website or forum on hybrid cars today. For the future, and in true Webpreneur fashion 😉
