Lack of choice at the Open Web Awards

By | December 16, 2007

There is an ongoing poll at Mashable which the guys named the Open Web Awards. It’s described as ” A contest to find the best sites on the Web.” I thought it looked interesting to see the results, so I spent some time voting. Although many good sites were not in the nominee list, it was interesting to view the results (only displayed after you vote).

What’s surprising in the Widgets and Applications category, was BlogRush and WidgetBucks both as nominees. I can understand if people aren’t particularly fond of BlogRush, but it’s a bit odd for WidgetBucks to be in the lead. Maybe their recent payouts had some kind of effect…I voted Quintura, more for the novelty and lack of choice.

Still, with millions of pageviews a month, I guess Mashable is the right place to host something like this. Some of my favorite sites weren’t there, while other big names like Orkut or Flickr were absent. At least, I got to know about Vois.com.

There’s still a little more time to vote, but it looks like the results are going to be basically: what you’re seeing now.
